Welcome to YCF Underwater Hockey
Okay, all you swimmers, divers, water polo players and aquatics enthusiasts come and join us for underwater hockey at the YMCA Aquatic Center on I-Drive Orlando (407 363 1911) We play Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights at 7:15PM. No charge to try it out. Bring mask, snorkel, fins and a good sense of fun (we have the sticks, gloves and pucks). Team is co-ed and no experience is necessary. See you underwater!
Midnight Swim + 4th party + UWH
Midnight swim tonight. (Bring a small flashlight to put in the dry pocket of the swim buoy- a glow stick won’t work) Movie starts at 9:45pm. You must watch the movie and do the swim to earn the patch. Bring your own refreshments. The morning swim (on the 4th tomorrow) is at 7:45am. We will take a photo of those that do both the midnight and morning swim duo (these are a special breed of swimmers). July 4th party starts at 5pm BUT a few UWH players may show up at 4pm to push the puck. Bring a swimsuit for water volleyball and something for yourself to throw on the grill and a side dish to share. We will shoot some fireworks off for the kids at dark. May also have a big water balloon fight if Max and his friends don’t use them all up today.
Practice Friday!
Friday’s practice will be the last practice before several of our teammates are off to Spain for the World Underwater Hockey Championships. Jono from University of Florida will be attending our practice Friday night and he is always a wealth of knowledge so I would recommend everyone attend. It should be a good scrimmage.
We will, of course, continue to have practice over the next two weeks while several of our players are in Spain. I have checked with the Aquatic Center and the US diving national championships will not interfere with any of our practices.
Good Luck to Dave who attended his last practice with us on Wednesday. Dave is moving to Columbia to get a job as a pilot. He promises that he will try to get an Orlando route so he can join us again in the future. Dave you will be missed.
It’s not too early to register for the Championships of the Universe March 5-6th in Key Largo. Lucky has already registered. Click Here
Let’s all start thinking about the tournament we are hosting in October. We will need volunteers.

The boys are off to Spain this weekend. L-R John Meisenheimer VII, Jake Meisenheimer, Conrad Dale and Sam Mariani . John Jake and Sam are members of the YMCA Aquatic Center. Conrad has been living with the Meisenheimer family this month in preparation for Worlds. All are members of the 19u team and this is the first time the USA has fielded a 19u team at Wiorld’s. Make us proud guys. Sam Mariani Sr is the team manager and Lucky is the Team Physician.
Midnight swim July 3rd, Party July 4th
Come join Lucky and Jacquie for their annual midnight swim on Friday July 3rd (movie starts at 9:30 – swim at midnight) you must watch the movie and do the swim to get the patch. Yes we will be having our Friday scrimmage so it is really a perfect evening (or even a great date night – Tom). Underwater hockey-movie-midnight swim surely it don’t get no better than that!
Also join them for their annual 4th of July Party on Saturday. The party starts at 5pm but if some folks want to show early and push the puck at 4 pm for an hour before the party – that would be great too. Your family and friends are welcome. Bring something to throw on the grill and a side dish to share. Bring your own drinks, but we will have out lemonade and water. We will be playing water volleyball around 8pm. Ariel Czesler gets his 25 K club cap at Lucky’s Lake Swim . . . and it only took 4 years to do it. I want to thank Ariel for all of his efforts recruiting Lake Swimmers over the years. Great practices the Wednesday and Friday. Let’s keep on getting all those folks out. If you haven’t played in a while you need to get back in the swing. Our tournament in October seems a long way off, but it will be here before you know it. Please sign this petition to have underwater hockey considered for admission as an Olympic Sport. Everyone on our team should sign this. Sign Here
Schedule and tournament
Thanks to Chris from Massachusetts for joining us. I don’t know where he ordered his gills from but I want a pair.
We will be having practice Friday night at the regular time at the YMCA. Memorial Day the Y is closed after 4pm so we will not be having practice Monday (Memorial Day) evening. We will have a workout at Lucky’s House after the lake swim (lake swim is at 7:45am) at 9:30 am for those that need an underwater hockey fix on Monday.
We have a set tournament date with the YMCA Aquatic Center of October 17th & 18th (turns out that the 3rd and 4th were not available so this was the only date we could do it in October. I have locked the date in. Now we need to decide what to call it and how to promote it.
Scrimmage tonight!
Join the fierce foursome tonight. We will be taking on all comers! Whatever you think your plans should be tonight they are not as important as playing underwater hockey.
Do it now, later becomes never.
You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to become great.
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
Work until your idols become your rivals.
That should be enough motivation . . . wait, here’s one for Tom “date night can be underwater hockey night” . . . Tom, you’re right, that one didn’t work for me either.
Important practice Friday!
Let’s try to have a good turnout this friday! Jono from the UF team will be joining us and it is always a great learning experience to be underwater with Jono. It seems our team always gets a bit better each time he attends.
We had some requests to see WESH 2 with Greg Fox’s award winning segment on UWH. You can see it by clicking here.
Story on our UWH team wins an award!!!
Do you remember the story done by Greg Fox and filmed by Scott Pisczek for WESH 2, which was shown right before the start of the winter Olympics? Well it turns out it was definitely memorable as it just won First place for Best Sports Feature at Saturdays Florida Associated Press Broadcasters banquet. Congrats to those at WESH 2 that did such a great job putting that segment together. Thanks to Rowdy Gaines for joining us that night to give the show a bit of star power.
Please remember that we are now playing Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at 7:30pm (yes, we have added and extra practice on Mondays) Bring some friends. I am pleased to say that Jake Meisenheimer is back playing and will be a regular from here on out until August.
We are looking to host a tournament in October. The first and 3rd weekends are available to us. Let’s all put our heads together and decide on a date so we can lock it in.

Rowdy and Lucky at the WESH 2 filming. Rowdy played and promised to return for more underwater fun. We are still waiting Rowdy and don’t forget to bring Judy.
Practice location/time changes for this week and next.
Due to a water polo tournament this Friday and the Jr. National swimming championships all next week we will be hold practices at Lucky’s house at 7 PM this friday (3/14) next Wednesday (3/18) and next Friday (3/20). There is no water space available at the YMCA Aquatic center not even in the teaching pool. I have some loaner gear and gloves but try to bring as much equipment as you can. These practices should be very low key and might be a good time to bring a friend to try it out. Click here for a map to Lucky’s House (6645 Lake Cane Drive, Orlando)
Special Practice on Monday
We are going to have a special practice on Monday 3/2/15 @ 7:30pm (as a lead up to the Championships of the Universe this weekend). We will be able to be in the big pool on both Monday and Wednesday. We will still have practice on Friday but many of the regulars will be missing because of the tournament. If there is a good turn out we have the option of adding a monday practice to our schedule on a regular basis. I want to thank Sam Sr. for refereeing at our practices. I think this is extremely helpful and give him a fist bump the next time you see him. Strong Work Sam Sr.
